I know its been done to death...but after returning from Dubbo NSW to Brisbane yesterday, I noticed that petrol prices in Dubbo were the same as in Brisbane $1.34 a litre going on the prices I saw. I thought Banana benders like myself had an 8 to 10 cent margin per litre on the other states. Or am I just an uneducated traveller?

As an aside, I purchased approximately $150 worth of fuel at Dubbo for the cruiser on a Coles 4c a litre docket discount and the discount was about $4.00. Why do I bother?

Steve,
Will be that way next year on "the trip" have van will travel.
A couple of years ago I struck $1.71 on the Gibb River rd. So I guess I will have to get used to holding my breath when I squeeze the handle on the pump. Does closing your eyes make the petrol cheaper?

During the tour season I fill 4 cruisers twice a week, if I fill a car for under $200 I think I won the lottery.LOL

Steve, what's this "fill" business ? The last time I filled the diesel 80, it burped because it normally doesn't get more than about half a tank.

Just got back from a trip from Darwin to Tve relocating a winnebago Alpine towing a tandem trailer with Susy on back.

$1,86 at renner springs (most expensive for trip)
$1,83 at Three ways
$1.81 at Barkley homestead.
$1.71 at Camooweal.

2550 Kms
$805.00 for fuel.
Averaged about 22L/100

Forgot the others

Main problem is of course there are not one pollie who pays for fuel so why should they worry.

Jim, you obviously didn't catch the recent Qld Govt enquiry into petrol pricing ...they had the same questions.

Footloose, I probably stopped listening. Whats that old Public Service saying...do not hold an enquiry unless you know the outcome. The problem with fuel..I think.... is that everyone has their proverbial fingers in "the till". Especially Fed and State Govts.

But now that us mere mortals have elected the same wall to wall Govt maybe we shall become as "one",could you imagine the fallout if everyone got their fingers out of the till, how easy would life be for me and my old 80 series petrol with van in tow.

SHE would have more to spend in the shops. I could stop closing my eyes and shuddering at servos. And I dont want to hear from those people who say buy a more efficient vehicle.

Jim, I can relate to stopping listening. Thats why I'm not sure of the outcomes :)
Some time ago I posted about the obscene profits the oil companies were making. I got it in the neck from the forum. Apparently most of us have a vested interest in the oil industry.
Mazing !
I was hung drawn and quartered when I said I didn't know if I had any shares in them (my managed funds don't give you that info).
So I guess that in the end it depends on which side of the fence you're sitting.
What a pity I always seem to be on the side that says "Poor":)))

Yep $4 dicount off a $150 purchase. The real cost to us is that in falling for this stunt, we're giving control of the fuel market to Coles and Woolies. When they have a monopoly we probably won't even get 4cents.

And it was raining and I got wet. The locals were happy I suppose, but my misery worsened when I drove down the road a bit and found petrol 2cents a litre cheaper. So in effect I only saved 2cents a litre.
But it was a good trip. On the way down we took a right hand turn at Narrabri, drove to just seven kilos this side of Burren Junction and camped at the town bores.

After an all day tow it was a free camp with flush toilets and a bore bath neck deep and about 40 deg. Aaaaahhhhh....beer in hand a good way to end the day. And we had it to ourselves.

Yer just tryin to make me jealous arent'cha, ya miserable bugga!!!

And here's me, sittin' in old Syney town, waiting for the next set of storms to roll through and, hopefully, clear the humidity. Me best mate's on shift work, so I'm stuck at home with my visting mother-in-law ..more storms a brewing.
Aaaaaahhhhh......to be in the bush with 40 clear degrees and a coldie in the fist ..a freebie campsite and flush toilets. Sounds like the bloody Hilton to me.

It was the Hilton minus the neon lights. Constant flowing hot water into the baths. I think about 8 litres a minute. Nice cool breeze blowing that made sleeping a breeze and MY mother in law (a lovely woman who I absolutely adore) was about 400klm away. Cold beer to remove the travel grime and the missus cooked a great feed. And no...I am not TRYING to make you jealous.

Oooops, I meant to add......and this is for the Burren Junction committe that runs the hot bores. I know that alcohol is not allowed within a certain distance of the bore baths but I did not see the sign until the next morning........true. But now that I know I will endeavor to behave myself next time and follow the rules.
